Help us make a tapestry for All Nations Heritage Sunday October 6, 2024.
You can see that we have started this tapestry with red, white and red – the colours of Canada’s flag.
You can get involved by contributing .25 metres or less of fabric from your “home” country (buy some if you are going “home” or have a family member send some.)
These strips are 36” wide (just under 1 metre) and only 3” or 9 cm tall and that would be big enough if you only want to do one strip. Your fabric might have an image that needs to be longer so if that is the case, we can make that work. For example, the African batik image (attached) should not be cut down to 3” tall.
Bring your fabric to church along with a piece of paper with your name, the country or heritage it represents, and maybe an explanation of why it is significant to you. I’ll collect all those stories and we will share them in October when we display the completed tapestry.
There will also be an opportunity for you to weave your piece of fabric into the tapestry. We will set this up here in the sanctuary so it is accessible and you can add your piece when you have it ready.
It’s okay if there is more than one contribution per country or per heritage. We would love to see everyone’s culture represented in this tapestry.

“The tapestry symbolizes our life together, how each of us adds colour and texture to the community.
It symbolizes that it isn’t our sameness that holds us together, but Jesus Christ, who is the grid through which we are all woven.
We become a body when we allow ourselves to be woven together by the Spirit of Christ.” from Proclamation By Design, Karmen Krahn and Leslie James
Together, our church is a beautiful tapestry in God’s eyes, and I hope we can celebrate that through this project.
