Repentance has never been popular. So I realize how unpopular it is to say that we plan to meet again this coming Sunday evening (March 22, 6:30pm) for a time of prayer and repetance.
Here are some verses from the Bible and quotes from others that help me understand the importance and counters of repentance:
"From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.' ” (Matthew 4:17).
"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9).
"Fear-based repentance make us hate ourselves. Joy-based repentance makes us hate the sin" (Tim Keller, Counterfeit Gods).
“When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, ‘Repent,’ he willed the entire life of believers to be one of repentance.” – Martin Luther, the first of the 95 Theses
"Repentance means turning from as much as you know of your sin to give as much as you know of yourself to as much as you know of your God, and as our knowledge grows at these three points so our practice of repentance has to be enlarged" (J I Packer).
