Reason #3: Jesus Rose From The Dead So That Preaching Would Not Be Useless
Reason #3 is connected to yesterday's Reason #2 (so that our faith would not be futile). We find both of these reasons in this verse: "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith" (1 Corinthians 15:14).
I realize that for many people preaching is useless. For many people (both those who attend church and those who do not) preaching is boring, irrelevent, not practical and certainly not worth listening to.
I get all of that.
And I am not trying to condone boring, useless, irrelevant and non-practical preaching. Certainly not. That kind of preaching shold not be condoned.
However preaching need not be boring or useless. And the main reason for this is the resurrection of Jesus.
If the resurrection really happend then there is a story a tell!
If Jesus really rose from the dead then there is something to talk about!
If Jesus rose from the dead then there is hope for the preaching, the preacher and those listening to the preacher.
If Jesus rose from the dead then Jesus is who he claims to be and his words, deeds and life take on authority and meaning for us.
If Jesus rose from the dead then we are always see the preaching of the Gospel in the light of the resurrection event. The resurrection shines on and around and behind all the preaching we do.
So away with useles and boring preaching! May the reality of Jesus' resurrection breath fresh life and meaning into preachers and their preaching.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
